76/4910 [Italy. Rome]. "Recentis Romae ichnographia et hypsographia sive planta et facies ad magnificentiam qua sub Alexandro VII. P.M. urbs ipsa directa, exculta et decorata est". Large engr. bird's eye plan after G.B. FALDA, 66,5x87 cm., from 2 plates, publ. by J. Covens and C. Mortier, Amst., ±1720.

- Small dam. in title-strip, upper margin with loss of 2 letters; a few (sm.) repaired damages on folds; sl. age-toned in outer blank margins and some sm. stained in lower right corner.

= Rare separately issued version of Giovanni Battista Faldas (1643-1678) important 1667 two-sheet plan of Rome (called the pianta piccola), republished during the first half of the 18th century by the Amsterdam publishers Johannes Covens (1697-1774) and Cornelis Mortier (1699-1783). The present Covens & Mortier version seems to have been published before the 1730 update (which added recent architectural additions) given that it is a faithful copy of the 1667 print (the key has the original 254 place names). This version differs from the 1667 pianta piccola only in that it omits the names of Falda and De Rossi beneath the title. Hülsen nn.119-120; Frutaz CLVIb. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE LXXVIII.
