68/5339 [Olympic Games]. Cassioli, G. (1851-1942). IXe Olympiade Amsterdam 1928. Gold-plated silver medal for event winners, Ø 55 mm., 3 mm thick, 67 gr., monogrammed "GC" [Giuseppe Cassioli] and embossed "IXe Olympiade Amsterdam 1928".

- Gold sl. fading on Nike's knee, arm and breast and on the backside on the head of the winner and the shoulder of one of his carriers; sl. darkened.

= Gold medal for the Summer Olympics 1928 held in Amsterdam. These were the first Olympics for which this medal design by Giuseppe Cassioli was used. It was used until the 1972 Games. Only 254 gold medals were minted (along with 258 silver and 259 bronze medals). As are all post-1912 first place winner medals, this one was made of gilt silver with gold plating.
