= RISM B VI,1 p.355. First published by the author in London in 1751, Geminiani emphatically distances himself from what was apparently en vogue at the time amongst violinists. As he states in his foreword, "mon attention particulière étant sans reserve, de développer les mysteres de l'Art, connus d'un très-petit nombre dans la foule de ceux qui se flattent d'être au comble de sa perfection; parce qu'au lieu d'imiter l 'Organe parfait de la voix et les beautés naturelles qu'elle renferme, ils s'éforcent au contraire à s'en eloigner, par le choix de ce qui est le moins harmonieux, et même choquant, comme le Coucou, le Tambour, etc." SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE LIX.
