- Very fine condition.

= The drawings in the manuscript are partly accompanied by sections copied from contemporary or older botanical works, i.a. J. Gerard and T. Pennant, and show the following plants: Meadow saffron (4 watercolours of the various stages of growth); "Agaricus muscarius" (Amanita); "Agaricus deliciosus" and "Agaricus ramosus". The author of this manuscript, Lucy Hardcastle, published a book titled 'An Introduction to the elements of the Linnaean system of botany for young persons' and is said by some to be an illigitimate daughter of Erasmus Darwin (Charles Darwin's grandfather). The first page of the manuscript has a dedication by Lucy Hardcastle to Francis Boott, "from his affectionate mother in law [signed]." Francis Boott, American physician and botanist, married Lucy Hardcastle's daughter Mary Hardcastle in 1820. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE LXX.
