- Sl. soiled/ foxed; paper brittle along margins; first few lvs. lack lower blank corner; new endpapers. Binding restored w. some use of contemp. vellum.
- Present are leafs A1 to C8. The copy present in the university library of Leyden has leafs A1 to D8. So our copy lacks the last quire of the almanac part. The second part lacks probably leaf B6, 7 and 8 (present in the Leyden copy); first part lower outer corner lvs. worn, dam. and/ or dogeared. Binding worn.
= Bound with Chronycxken, ofte Kort Historisch Verhael, van 't gepasseerde inde Coninckrijcken/ Vorstendommen en Landen van Europa/ sedert de Geboorte Jesu Christi. Very rare. The illustrations of the almanac part shows garden scenes and various fishes, the almanac provides information on which plants to plant, prune or harvest and which fish to eat. In the second part the illustrations show mostly portraits of historical figures and a few scenes. Frontcover shows the coat of arms of Amsterdam and a small portrait of William III on horseback, backcover shows three 'Schutters' under the Orange tree, with the coat of arms of the Low Countries, Orange-Nassau and Amsterdam.

= The first edition of the best 17th cent. description of Amsterdam, based on the works by the predecessors Dapper and Van Domselaar and on materials furnished by the author's father Isaac Commelin. The author (1636-1693) had free access to the archives of the city and therefore his work contains much more reliable sources and official documents than the works by Dapper and Van Domselaar. Carsten Niebuhr (1733-1815) travelled extensively in Arabia, Persia, Palestine and Asia Minor, and became by his descriptions and maps and the richness of his observations the pioneer of a more profound knowledge of the Orient. Henze III, p.610: "Als erste literarische Hauptfrucht der langen Reise veröffentlichte er in 1772 die Beschreibung von Arabien, ein Werk klassischen Gepräges, das mehr Stoff darbrachte als alle früheren europäischen Werke zusammengenommen; hinzu kam, daß es großenteils auf Autopsie basierte. N. hielt sich fern von jeder Kompilation nach anderen Autoren und trug nur vor, was er selbst beobachtet und gesammelt hatte".
