= Friendly letters, which grow in warmth from kindly thanking the Dutch pianist/ composer Hans Schouwman for his interest in his music, to a very appreciative and warm letter expressing his gratitude and respect for the book that Schouwman has written about his works: "(...) Mit grossem Interesse habe ich Ihr Buch gelesen und dabei festgestellt, dass obgleich ich nie Holländisch studiert habe, ich dennoch Ihre Sprache recht gut im Druck verstehen kann. Empfangen Sie meinen herzlichen Dank für Ihre ausgezeichnete Arbeit. Das Buch ist sehr selbständig und mit grossen Verständnis für meine Musik geschrieben, was ja in Ihrem Fall nichts merkwürdiges ist, da Sie selbst Tonsetzer und Musikforscher sind. Ihre Arbeit enthält vieles, was von anderen Autoren ganz ignoriert worden ist. Ich kann Ihnen schon sagen, dass es mich wirklich freut, in so vortrefflicher Weise dem holländischen Volk vorgeführt zu werden, dessen Musikgeschichte sich bis in das Mittelalter erstreckt."
