= Early issue of the longest running newspaper (first weekly, later daily) in the world. The first number was published in 1656 by Abraham Casteleyn.

According to Theal ("History of Africa, 1486-1691"), Pieter de Neyn was "a good-natured, witty personage, well read in law, and thoroughly competent for his post". He "held the office of Fiscal at the Cape of Good Hope from February 1672, to October 1674," after which he was dispatched to Batavia. The first part of the volume (...) describes the marriage customs of all parts of the world, pages 171-230 being devoted to Africa (...)." = Johannes in de Betouw (1732-1820) was archaeologist and lawyer, who, like his forefather Johannes Smetius, did much research on Roman and Germanic history and on the general history of Nijmegen. He published a great number of works. Gijsbert Cornelis (1765-1805) was his son ("Hij werkte veel met zijn vader samen, zoodat vele werken van deze ook op zijn naam staan. Dat is mogelijk, daar de meeste naamloos verschenen. Intusschen is het wel zeker, dat de vader de voornaamste hand in dien arbeid heeft gehad." (NNBW)).

Contains beautiful views of mansions, mainly in the surroundings of Haarlem and near De Vecht: Velserbeek (2x), Boekenrode (2), Waterland (2), Elswoud, Berckenrode (2), Oosterduin (2), Hoffwerk, Rupelmonde, Over-Holland (2), Trompenburgh (2), Schaffelaar (2), Het Klooster ("by Heemstede") (2), Voorland (2) and Karssenhof. Very fine and rare series, originally published in instalments: "Numan could (...) paint subtle water-colours and, in 1793, sent out a circular letter with two coloured prints of two mansions, inviting subscriptions for a whole series of such pictures.
