= Friendly cards, i.a. congratulating Loekie with her birthday. "(...) Hier zijn volgens afspraak de bekende Lieverkoekjes. Zij smelten in den mond, zoodat bij gebruik soppen niet noodig is, hoewel dit ook niet verboden is (...)" [20/02/1925]. "(...) daarom wilde ik je een hartelijken gelukwensch toezenden uit deze verre stad, waar alleen maar schuitjes zijn, en geen enkele auto (...)" [picture postcard sent from Venice, w. on verso a photogr. picture of the San Marco square; 07/05/1930]. "(...) Het heeft nog al eens geregend hier in den laatsten tijd. Als je daar veel in hebt geloopen, zul je nog wel een groot stuk gegroeid zijn, als ik je weerzie. "Meiregen, maak dat ik grooter word, grooter word", zongen wij vroeger (...)" [26/05/1933]. = From 1908 until his death Boutens lived together with Cor van Duyvenbode, who went through life as Boutens' house servant, but with whom Boutens had a secret homosexual relationship. Curious letters, i.a. on the miseries of war and asking for financial support. "(...) De tweede Januari toen ik bij den notaris verscheen om mijn maandelijksche f 100 van Boutens te halen, wist deze mij te vertellen dat hij die maandelijksche f 100 niet meer uit kon betalen aangezien zijn kassaldo achtergelaten door de erven Boutens niet toereikend meer was. (...) Uit naam van de goede nagedachtenis van onze Boutens, vraag ik U om mij in deze uw hulp te verleenen? Door maandelijksch een kleine bijdrage te willen geven (...). Ter eere van de nagedachtenis van onze grootste Holl. woordkunstenaar wijlen Boutens vraag ik U Uw hulp mij niet te ontzeggen (...)" [06/02/1945]. "(...) Nu is het morgen den 20e den geboortedag van onze grote dichter en vriend P.C. Boutens. (...) We zullen de 20 in alle stilte herdenken. Als ik in mijn huis rond kijk ontmoet ik overal Boutens (...)" [19/02/1946]. "(...) 'k Ben zeer nieuwsgierig hoe mijn oude weldoener, uit de benarde oorlogsjaren het maakt? (...) Behalve t schilderij en krijtteekening heb ik ook nog een mooie ets van J. Thoorop [sic] met de beeltenis van P.C. Boutens. (...) 'k Heb berekend dat ik van deze winter een bedrag van twee honderd vijftig gulden noodig heb dan zal U mij ook in staat stellen dat ik ook nog een winterjas kan overnemen welke ik niet meer bezit. Wij komen al op een tamelijke leeftijd zoodat het mij onmogelijk is om op een andere manier er aan te komen. Als U het goed zou keuren, dan zou ik de dingen met v. Gend en Loos kunnen sturen. (...) Hierbij stuur ik U 't allerlaatste werk van Dr P.C. Boutens onze groote man. U zal wel merken dat dit gedicht over onze moordenaren de bezetter ging. Toen als 't ware ons woord stierf (...)". - WITH added a ms. leaf "Verzen van P.C. Boutens. Toen Boutens stierf stonden deze nog op zijn schrijfmachine. Dus niet uitgegeven. Toen stierf het woord... (...)", dated "23 Feb '43".
